Introduction

Newslogia is a Web service where people enjoy commenting or reacting with emojis on any news or Web pages on the Internet. This documentation will explain newslogia concepts and features, how to use newslogia, and so on.

Newslogia is a simple news sharing service but not everything may seem natural to you. Each concept/feature is explained in detail in each dedicated section.

Users

Registering as a user, you can post news, comments, and reactions.

You can register as a user on registration page. User registration requires the following:

  • An email address that you can actually receive emails with
  • A username

You pick your username conforming to Username format. Your email is kept private while any visitor can see your username.

Newslogia uses Magic for passwordless authentication. You will receive an email from noreply@trymagic.com that contains a login button. Please click the button to register/login.

You have to enter your email address to login, so don't forget your email address for newslogia.

Username format

Usernames must be 1-15 long and contain only alphanumerical characters (a-Z0-9) and underscore (_). Besides, you can't register with misleading usernames like newslogia.

Profile

You can edit your public profile on this page. You can see your public profile by clicking the See public profile button on this page.

Notifications

You can see your notifications on Notification page.

You will be notified when:

  • Your comment has a reply

Changing your email address

To change your email address, go to Change email page and enter your new email address. You will receive a confirmation email from noreply@trymagic.com to your new email address. After confirming the new email address, Magic will send you another confirmation email to your old email address.

Logout

To logout, go to profile page and click Logout button.

Quitting

If you would like to quit/unregister, go to Quit page and follow the instructions. The entire process probably takes less than 10 seconds.

News

News consists of the following:

  • URL: an address to a Web page that starts with http:// or https://
  • Title: news title the poster pick but should be the web page's title in most cases
  • Locale: newslogia's news space is seperated by languages

You can post news on Post page while logged in. The Post page contains a convinient bookmarklet to help you post news easily.

You can't remove news once posted so be careful. Titles can be edited by posters but URLs can't be.

To switch locale, click a language on the site top-most header.

Each news URL is unique on a locale. You can't post news of the same URL on a locale.

Front news

Front news is the home page of newslogia.

Front news page displays today's top 100 news. How the ranking system works is not currently open and may be tweaked from time to time.

Latest news

Latest news displays news in chronological order.

Past news

Past news displays Front news of the day you pick.

Finding news

Find news page lets you search news using variety of filters.

Reactions

You can react to news and comments with emojis.

Reaction limitations

  • The maximum number of emojis per news is 18
  • The maximum number of emojis per news per user is 3
  • The maximum number of emojis per comment is 18
  • The maximum number of emojis per comment per user is 3

Available emojis

Newslogia currently uses OpenMoji for emoji graphics. Custom emojis will be supported in the future.

Comments

You can comment on news. Go to individual news detail page by clicking news timestamp, the number of comments text, or points text.

Replying to comments

You can reply to comments (or referencing to comments) by using anchors like >>1. Authors of replied comments will be notified.

RSS

Here're the links to newslogia RSS feeds.

Stats

Stats page shows various metrics of newslogia like the total number of users, news, reactions, and comments.

Changelog

Changelog shows the version history of newslogia.
